LEGAL STRUCTURE & COMPLIANCE

The Cockburn Toy Library is an incorporated association registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). Annual information statements are available on our ACNC page.

We contract an independent auditor each financial year to conduct a full review of our financial records, internal controls, and operational processes. This is a voluntary process we engage in to verify accuracy, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. 

​

Our constitution outlines the rules of the toy library, including committee structure, meetings, who can be a member, and decision-making, including dispute handling processes.

 

We continue to review and enhance our ways of working to provide clear structure, compliance, and strong record-keeping that support long-term sustainability.

BEING CHILD-SAFE

Child Safe Standards require organisations that involve children to create environments that protect children from harm. A child-safe organisation actively supports children’s participation by listening to their views, respecting their rights, and creating environments where they feel confident to engage. Our Child Safe Policy sets out our expectations and planned actions to support all children to feel safe and supported at the toy library.

The Code of Conduct sets out standards for behaviour when visiting or interacting with our library. It provides clear guidance on expected behaviour, boundaries, and responsibilities, to help create safe, respectful, and inclusive environments.

 

A clear Code of Conduct is important because it:

  • Sets clear expectations for everyone involved

  • Supports child safety and wellbeing

  • Helps prevent harm, risk, or misunderstandings

  • Provides a framework for accountability and responding to concerns

The Cockburn Toy Library aims to create a culture where all staff, volunteers, caregivers, and children feel confident and comfortable to raise and discuss child safety concerns. The Committee and paid staff members are responsible for promoting the understanding that child safety is everyone’s responsibility.

You can talk to any of our Committee members or staff members if you have a question or concern - we are all here to help. All concerns are taken seriously and are shared with the broader Committee and staff to ensure that we can address and resolve issues in a timely manner.
