WA Day Public Holiday Weekend

The Cockburn Toy Library will be closed the last Saturday of May due to the Western Australia Day public holiday weekend. Both Atwell and Coolbellup branches will be closed on 30 May 2026.

Please do not attend either location on Saturday!

We will extend all loan periods so that the due date for toys will be the following weekend.

BBQ Fundraiser Recap

Thank you to the members who volunteered, visited, or otherwise supported our BBQ at Bibra Lake Bunnings on 25 April. We had a very busy day selling over 600 hot dogs and are pleased to have raised almost $1,400 on the day. This money is earmarked for improvements to our toy collection over the next few months. We are so excited to share with you what is coming for the toy library!!

Active Members - Get your Rosters Booked In!

A quick reminder to schedule your roster duties! The calendar is now populated through to the end of July 2026, so please jump in and nominate a date that works for you. There are many days to choose from and we need your help. Winter can be a tricky time with families, so lock in your spot early to make sure it fits your schedule before your membership period ends.

Boxes, Bags, Containers & More

Please remember to return the packaging along with your toys! Many toys can’t be loaned out without their original boxes or bags, and replacing packaging is expensive for the library.

If packaging is missing, the Toy Librarian may ask you to re-loan the toy so it can be reunited with its packaging. Also, take care when transporting boxes and bags—damage adds up and costs the library considerably over the year. Thank you for you care, consideration and help to keep everything in great condition!

23 May - Pineview Community Open Day

Our neighbours at Pineview Community Kindergarten are running an open day on Saturday 23 May from 10AM to 1PM with art stalls, entertainment, sensory play, Noongar language learning, and more. We expect parking to be significantly limited during the Coolbellup borrowing session. Where possible, please plan to attend the Atwell session (9.30-11.30AM) or expect to park on the empty lot next to the Coolbellup branch or the street.

Grants Update

We were pleased to participate in Cockburn Gateway Grill'd's Local Matters program in April. Our jar had the second-most amount of tokens, and we appreciate those who were able to visit and vote for our library. We will be receiving a $100 payment in the near future which will be added to our toy purchasing budget.

Additionally, we have been awarded a National Science Week grant by Inspiring WA that will be used in August to create a sensory garden at the library, as well as to purchase nature and gardening-related toys. Stay tuned for more information about the activities we'll be running during our Saturday sessions in August. 👩‍🔬🌱🐛🔍

Open Meeting - Collections Policy

We were pleased We are holding an open committee meeting on Saturday 23 May from 9AM to 10AM - any and all members are welcome to attend.

This meeting is to discuss and create a collection policy, which is a document that states what sorts of toys we will be looking to buy in future, and what kinds of toys we will be planning to phase out of our collection. We value your feedback and would love to have you join this discussion to help shape the direction of the library. If you are not able to attend but would like to share your ideas, please respond to this email and let us know what you'd like to see more of!!
